Seven Summits of Saalbach Hinterglemm

The long and demanding - a challenge for mountaineers

"Seven Summits" - we know the name of the seven highest peaks of the earth, which can not be beaten in terms of difficulty, length and effort. It's exactly the same with the tour over the seven highest peaks of Saalbach Hinterglemm, this tour also combines everything in one day, what the ambitious hiker's and mountaineer's hearts desire, including steep climbs, climbing passages and top views.

This route leads to the top

This mega-tour starts at the Schattberg-Ostgipfel, which we climb with the Schattberg-Express quite simply. From there the route is the same as at the Pinzgauer Spaziergang over the Stemmerkogel to Klingertörl. Now it is not so easy in the direction of Schmittenhöhe, but we climb the summit of the Hochkogel. From there we continue on the Hochsaalbachkogel, Bärensteigkogel, Manlitzkogel, Mittagskogel to the highest point of the tour, the Geißstein.

One peak after another

The route over the summits demands not only a hellish endurance, but also surefootedness and a head for heights. Again and again, sections are exposed and difficult to master. What we do not need here is overwork and exhaustion, we should stick to it. The Geißstein is supposedly Austria's highest grass mountain and offers sensational views. From there we descend into the valley and look forward to a stop, which we have now earned.

Short facts about the Seven Summits

  • Length: approx. 24 km
  • Ascent: approx. 1,450 metres of altitude
  • Descent: approx. 2,110 metres of altitude
  • Duration: about 9-10 hours
  • Highest point: 2,363 m
  • Refreshments: nothing on the way, after descent, Lindlingalm
  • Difficulty: very long and challenging mountain tour - reserved for experienced and well-trained hikers!

TIP: CAUTION Addictive! Hardly a hike in Austria offers so many fantastic panoramas and magnificent mountain peaks at the same time. But the Seven Summits have to be earned hard. 24 km and over 1,400 metres of altitude speak a clear language. Only really experienced mountaineers should venture on this tour. We always pack enough food and drink - there are no huts along the way!
