Saalachtaler Höhenweg - demanding panorama path
Mountain path with panorama over the Leoganger Steinberge
The Saalachtaler Höhenweg is not an insider tip, but it is one of the coolest mountain trails that you can do starting from Saalbach. Thanks to the ascent with the mountain railway - this is included with the Joker Card - you reach the highest point and the starting point of the mountain trail very easily. And then you have to enjoy, be amazed and simply absorb the great nature and the beautiful path.
That's the route you should take
If you take the mountain cable car starting from Saalbach, the tour starts at the Kohlmais and you hike comfortably over the Wildenkarkogel and the Schönleitenhütte towards Asitz. There you can meet those hikers starting from Leogang on the tour. The path now leaves the ski resort civilization and leads along a beautiful ridge over Geierkogel, Lochalmköpfe up to the summit of the Sausteige high above the village Maishofen.
You have plenty of options
If you have enough, you can easily get off at Maishofen or Viehhofen and take the post bus back to the starting point in Saalbach. Motivated hikers can continue their way to Biberg and from there take the summer toboggan run into the valley near Saalfelden. A path even leads into the valley to Leogang, from where you have the opportunity to take the cable car back to the Asitz and then descend to Saalbach.
